How it works
We optimized for the moment you're standing in line at a Tim Hortons in Toronto thinking about your mom in Kigali.
01
Pick CAD, type any amount. We show you the exact RWF the recipient gets, before you commit.
02
Visa or Mastercard via Stripe. Takes about 20 seconds.
03
MTN MoMo or Airtel Money, straight to their phone. We tell you the moment it lands.
Try it with any amount, no signup needed.
Transparent pricing
Most providers hide their real cost in the exchange rate. Here is the breakdown on a $100 send to Rwanda, at the mid-market rate of 940 RWF.
Rates checked June 2026. Competitor fees and margins are estimates based on publicly available pricing. Your actual experience may vary.
on every $100 send vs bank wires and traditional remittance.
What you get
Idembe was built by Rwandans who got tired of paying $25 fees and watching three days disappear before the money showed up. Four things we do differently:
Direct payout to MTN MoMo or Airtel Money. Most transfers settle before you close the app.
Flat 3% fee with a $1 minimum. Zero FX margin: we use the same mid-market rate Google shows.
Card payments via Stripe (PCI-DSS Level 1). Identity checks by Didit. Your card details never touch our servers.
A live status page for every transfer, from the card charge to the confirmation on your recipient's phone.
The hidden fee most providers never mention
When Google says 1 CAD = 940 RWF, that's the mid-market rate: the real rate banks use when trading with each other.
Many remittance apps advertise "no fees" but give you a rate of, say, 902 RWF. The 38 RWF difference is a hidden ~4% fee.
On a $500 send, that hidden margin costs your family ~19,000 RWF, more than the advertised transfer fee itself.
We charge a flat 3% and give you the real mid-market rate. No hidden FX margin. No surprise.
The 3% covers card processing (Stripe) and our licensed payout partner in Rwanda. We publish exactly how we make money, because when you're sending money to family, transparency is the only currency that matters.
The rate you see is the rate your family receives.
Security & compliance
We operate through licensed partners and are bound by the same anti-money-laundering rules as every regulated financial service.
All data in transit uses TLS 1.3. Card details never touch our servers; Stripe handles payment data directly.
We verify every sender with a government ID and a live selfie through Didit, an EU-licensed identity provider. Required by Canadian and Rwandan AML regulations, overseen by FINTRAC (Canada) and the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR).
$2,000 per transfer and $5,000 per month after verification. Automated screening on every send. Suspicious activity is flagged and reviewed before payout.
Payouts to MTN MoMo and Airtel Money run through a payment partner licensed by the National Bank of Rwanda. Your recipient is paid on regulated rails, never through informal channels.
Idembe is operated by Pristine Technologies Ltd, registered in Rwanda. We do not hold customer funds: card payments are processed by Stripe and settled through licensed partners. We are committed to full compliance with Canadian and Rwandan anti-money-laundering regulations, as overseen by FINTRAC (Canada) and the National Bank of Rwanda (BNR).
We're onboarding the first 50 senders by hand to learn what works, fix what doesn't, and build the rest with you.
